Biodiesel: American-Grown Performance

Myths & Facts

Myth

You can't use biodiesel in cold weather.

Fact

Biodiesel can be blended for excellent cold weather performance.

Myth

Biodiesel doesn't provide as much power as diesel.

Fact

Biodiesel offers enhanced power from higher cetane, plus improved lubricity for less engine wear and tear.

Myth

Biodiesel clogs fuel filters.

Fact

Biodiesel acts as a solvent, removing petroleum buildup and cleaning fuel filters. As the petroleum residue cycles through the engine, fuel filters may initially plug, but with petroleum buildup eliminated, performance is enhanced.

Myth

Using biodiesel puts an engine warranty at risk.

Fact

Using biodiesel does not void parts or materials warranties with any major U.S. engine manufacturer.

Myth

Biodiesel doesn't perform as well as diesel.

Fact

Biodiesel can be used in existing engines and fuel injection equipment. It has a higher cetane number than U.S. diesel fuel. Biodiesel also has superior lubricity and has the highest BTU content of any alternative fuel (falling in the range between #1 and #2 diesel fuel).
